Green Deal Domestic Assessor Courses C&G 6066-01 and 6066-11
What is Green Deal?
The Green Deal is a new Government initiative aimed at Domestic and Non-Domestic properties in an attempt to cut CO2 emissions, and both of which require qualified Green Deal Assessors capable of producing Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs, Domestic) or Display Energy Certificates (DEC, Non-Domestic) creating a Green Deal Assessment Report using approved software, and providing advice to the customer based on this assessment.
A quarter of the UK’s carbon emissions comes from the energy used in homes and a similar amount comes from our businesses, industry and workplaces. The Climate Change Act 2008 legislated for a reduction in our carbon emissions, and set legally-binding carbon targets across all sectors of the economy including our homes and communities, and our workplaces.
The Green Deal which was launched in October 2012 will allow householders and businesses to make energy efficiency improvements to their properties at no up front cost to them. The cost of the improvements will be met by a Green Deal Loan attached to the property, which will be repaid from the savings made from the property’s lower electricity and heating bills. The Green Deal’s ‘Golden Rule’ is that the annual savings made from installed Green Deal measures must be greater than the annual Green Deal loan repayment – therefore the net cost to the householder or business would always be NIL.
Who is a Green Deal Domestic Assessor?
A domestic property must be assessed for its suitability for the Green Deal – this is carried out by a qualified Green Deal Domestic Assessor (GDDA). The GDDA will conduct a survey on the home and perform a Green Deal Assessment which will result in a list of measures that can be funded under the Green Deal. Green Deal Installers can perform a Green Deal Assessment, but they must be qualified as a Green Deal Assessor and perform the assessment in accordance with the scheme rules.
